This instrument was given to me in 2004 by a former colleague. The instrument is of Swiss origin. This instrument was used (and modern versions are still used) to make sketches in the field. The box is provided with leather straps so it can be used as a rugsack. The tripod can be tied to the box. The tribrach that is in the box would be fitted on the tripod. On this tribrach a drawing board (dimensions according to the packing list: 61.5cm x 46cm, not in my posession) should be mounted. A drawing could than be placed on this board and, on top of that, the alidade would have been placed.
Jürg Dedual of the Swiss Wild Heerbrugg virtual archives identified and dated the instrument for me.
